Managing Holiday Overwhelm
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Christmas is Saturday!
& if you’re anything like me, this means that lots of wonderful chaos awaits this week.
Of course, in a normal setting, the words wonderful & chaos wouldn’t vibe together. This is different, though. We’re talking big fun.
However, the ingredients that make up a holiday a success story can cause a ton of stress because there is just so much to do. Things like last minute decorating & last minute shopping & getting the family together & cooking &…
You get the point. All the things.
It can become overwhelming in so many ways. But, this year, we are keeping it light & refreshing. Let’s discuss how.
Okay. There is one advantage to holiday overwhelm: it’s predictable.
The process is a routine by now. We anticipate this time of year, & we know what must be done if we are involved in the planning & prepping. Which means, we know what’s going to be easy to check off the long list of to-do’s & what’s going to have us needing a glass of wine by the end of the day. So, we have the upper hand in being able to pre-adjust ourselves.
Also, if this is your first time doing what I like to call the “holiday take-over,” meaning that everything is in your hands, you will quickly learn your routine. Maybe I’ll share some tips on that later?
Alright, back to it.
We know what we are up against for the most part, so that makes it a little easier on us.
Now, let’s get into how to deal with the stress of our magical holidays.
Managing Holiday Overwhelm:
Plan
Always have a game plan. No matter what. This includes a backup plan as well, because sometimes things go ALL the way left. You don’t want to end up in a moment where you’re just completely lost. This causes last minute, situations that aren’t so fun & easy to pull off. TRUST ME. Block out 20 minutes to write down your to-do’s & any extra steps you need to take. It’s good to have it all in front of you.
Pace Yourself
Honestly, from personal experience, I believe this is where most of the stress & overwhelm come in. Knowing what you have to do is one thing, but actually getting it all done is another.
Give yourself an ample amount of time to check everything off on your list. Don’t rush. Ultimately, what I’m saying is don’t try to do everything is a small window. The point of planning properly is so that you don’t have to cram & overwhelm yourself.
Don’t Overspend
Okay, I’m still learning this one myself. I totally get wanting to buy the best gifts & have the best decorations, & all the food choices. It’s a thing. I know. But we don’t need to over do it. Sale items are just as good! Sometimes better if you’re in the right place. Spend in moderation. Your January self will thank you for it.
Be In the Moment
Sometimes we get so caught up in our planning & tasks that we forget to stop for a second & enjoy the moments. & goodness, are these moments important. We can’t miss them, guys. Spend time with your family. Take in your environment. Breathe. Stress just melts away when you do. It’s so worth it.
Blast Holiday Jams
Spice it up with holiday music! I’ve been blasting my Christmas playlist since the first day of November, & I have no regrets. There’s nothing more relieving than singing & dancing around the house to “All I Want for Christmas is You.” You can’t help but to let go & feel the holiday cheer.
& there you have it. You can now take on the holidays like a pro.
I’m so excited for the festivities. We can really use the joy after a year like this one.
So, are you ready to dive in? Let’s go.
What are some ways that you like to deal with holiday overwhelm? Share!
Alright, guys. It’s the week of Christmas. Let’s get festive!!
Much love & mimosas.
