12 Days of Blogmas | Tapping Into Your Creativity
We’ve all been there — you are a writer, or you want to be, but when it comes time to sit down & get started, it just isn’t happening.
There is NOTHING worse than staring mindlessly at a computer screen just waiting for a thought to pop into your head.
It doesn’t mean that you’re not talented or motivated, it just means we may need to reboot your system & get some creativity flowing again!
Okay babe, this is the vibe.
You’ve come home from a long day of work & are ready to pour into something that gets to be just for you.
Take some time to create a relaxing atmosphere. Light a candle, diffuse some essential oils, dim the lights low, & play some lo-fi beats in the background. Whatever helps you to calm down & let go of the stress from the day. Eliminate all distractions (do not disturb is an excellent feature). This time is just for you.
As human beings, we are products of our environment. When you’re taking time to write & be creative, relaxing & calming environments are most conducive to that.
Now, we don’t have to get straight to the writing just yet.
Since we’re vibing & relaxed, one way to begin feeling more creative is to make a vision board. Remember when we used to make paper collages out of magazine clippings? Same idea here.
Pinterest is KEY for this! Pull up the website, scroll until you find some pictures that are inspiring to you, & then copy & paste them into a Canva template however you see fit. I attached an example of a vision board I made that inspired me to write about a health & wellness topic. Be fun with this.
Now it’s time to write. & I’m not talking about structured sit-down writing assignments like the ones we used to do back in school. No outlines are needed here, unless you find them helpful. We are going to free flow.
Simply start typing or writing whatever comes to mind, & whatever continues to inspire you. There’s nothing to overthink here, just write all of your thoughts & see what happens.
Eventually, you will start to see a common theme & have a more clear idea of what you want to write about. It may even take several sessions to complete, but once you allow yourself to get lost in your creative experience, you will be amazed at what pours out.
I feel like there’s not many times during our day where we give ourselves free reign to be creative & make something that is uniquely ours with no expectations. What you decide to start writing about doesn’t have to be perfect, it honestly doesn’t even have to make sense at first. As long as you’re putting words on a page, you’re getting somewhere. Trust.
True creatives allow their process to flow without expectations. It’s about creating a space where you can tap into your own inner resources, & allow whatever is inside you to manifest as words on a page.
So many people think blogging isn’t for them because they can’t tap into their creative mindset. But if you feel called to write & can’t figure out how to access it, give yourself the space & time to do so.
You got this.
