What Do You Want Fall to Feel Like This Year?

AHHHH!!
The ’Ber Months have arrived, everyone!!
Technically, fall hasn’t started yet, & here in Texas, stepping outside still feels way too hot for my liking. But the stores have been changing over to their fall collections & I’m already thinking about everything I want to do once the weather finally gets with the program.
This is always the point where it gets really easy to start making lists. Places we want to go. Recipes we’ve saved since last year. All the things we suddenly decide we need.
Before we get too far into all of that, though, I’ve been thinking about one question: What do you actually want fall to feel like this year?
I don’t mean that in some deep, journal-for-forty-five-minutes kind of way. We are not creating a brand strategy for your autumn. I just think it’s worth checking in before the season gets busy.
Summer may have worn you out. Or maybe you’re ready to get out of the house more & actually make plans again. Either way, that gives you a much better starting point than trying to build some perfect seasonal bucket list.
& I think the easiest way to figure it out is to forget the dreamy Saturday for a second. You know the one. The weather is perfect & you’re wearing an incredible outfit at the local pumpkin patch with your fall drink. Naturally, the leaves are just the right shades.
I love those days too, but most of fall is going to happen on regular Wednesdays. What sounds good on one of those? Maybe that’s finally being able to take a walk after work without melting. Maybe it’s making dinner at home because turning the oven on no longer makes you feel like you’re going to overheat.
Those ordinary days are probably where the season will actually feel the most exciting for you.
& of course, now we can talk about clothes because, hello?!
I LOVE fall fashion, but I also know how easy it is to see the new collections roll in & immediately feel like I need an entirely new personality & wardrobe. This year, I’m starting with what I already know I love.
I just know there’s a jacket from last year hiding somewhere that I completely forgot about, & I’m already thinking about the boots I’ll wear with half my closet. That makes way more sense than convincing myself I need every beautiful thing that appears on my screen between now & November.
Same goes for my house. September always makes me want to start changing things up. I’ll see one cute fall candle & that’s all it takes for me to go into overdrive.
But I’d rather focus on what I’m actually going to enjoy at home. If I end up having people over more, I want the space to work for that. If I’m home more often, I want it to feel like somewhere I’m happy to spend the evening.
& yes, sometimes the answer is absolutely a new candle. I will not be pretending otherwise.
All of this goes for plans, too. Pinterest will have you down a rabbit hole thinking you have to do every single autumn activity that ever existed to be doing the season “right.”
Nay, nay.
There are a few things I genuinely look forward to every year, so those come first. Then I can add something new if it actually sounds fun, like finally taking that weekend trip we keep talking about or remembering a local event before it’s already over.
That sounds way more enjoyable than trying to cram every possible fall activity into a few short months.
I also want to leave some room for whatever happens naturally. Some of the best days are the ones you didn’t schedule weeks in advance. A last-minute text, good weather or a random idea can turn into one of the best parts of the season.
I don’t want every weekend mapped out before fall even officially starts. I’m just ready to enjoy it as it comes.
So yes, I’m excited for fall fashion & the food. & I can’t even begin to tell you how ready I am to the the crisp, cool air.
What are you craving this fall? Tell me everything because we’re officially getting started. 🍂🤎
