A Softer Take on Summer: June Intentions & Everyday Routines

Let me just say it.
Summer has never really been my season.
While a lot of people seem to light up this time of year, I usually feel a little… off. Like my energy doesn’t quite match the season. The pace gets faster, everything gets louder, & I find myself craving quiet & calm in a time that’s often the complete opposite.
With that said, I don’t hate everything about summer. I can absolutely get behind a chill pool day when the sun isn’t trying to scorch my skin off. Aside from my school days, I’ve just never been the kind of person who thrives in the heat or counts down to summer like it’s a fresh start. I just honestly tend to feel a little out of rhythm.
Still, I’ve learned how to move through it in a way that feels good for me. & no, it’s not by forcing excitement. Instead, it’s by leaning into what actually helps me feel like myself.
If you feel like summer throws you off a bit, you’re not alone. & if you do love this season & feel like you’re in your element right now, that’s amazing. This post isn’t meant to take away from that. I’m just offering a different perspective that might even inspire some new ways to enjoy it.
The Energy of June
June always feels like a bit of a shift. It’s the halfway point of the year, & that alone kind of forces a pause. Like, how did we get here already?
For me, it’s less about chasing summer goals & more about checking in with myself. I like to ask:
- What do I need more of right now?
- What feels like too much?
- Where can I slow down a little, even if the world feels like it’s speeding up?
That energy check-in sets the tone for the rest of the month.
My Intentions for June & the Rest of Summer
I’m not trying to reinvent my entire life this season. I just want to feel grounded & steady.
Here’s what I’m focusing on:
- More slow mornings, even just a few minutes of quiet before the day starts.
- Spending less time online when it’s not adding to my peace.
- Being kind to myself when my energy dips.
- Choosing what feels good over what I think I should be doing.
It’s all about being intentional without the pressure.
My Summer Routines (That Actually Work for Me)
Getting really real here. I’m not out here chasing the sun. But I’ve found a few routines that help me move through summer with a little more ease:
- Morning journaling with iced coffee.
- Late evening walks when the air finally cools off.
- Movie nights or rewatching comfort shows with the A/C cranked up.
- Reading in bed with a good book & blackout curtains.
- Refreshing my skincare so I still feel like myself, even on the sticky days.
None of it is groundbreaking. But it helps.
Creating a Season That Works for You
You don’t have to love every season. You don’t have to be “on” all the time.
What matters is finding what helps you feel grounded, even in seasons that don’t come naturally to you.
Some people thrive in the sunshine, while others feel more like themselves in the quiet shade. Either way, you get to define what summer looks like for you.
I’d love to know. What are you leaning into right now? Any routines keeping you steady?
& heads up, I’ve got some fun things coming your way this soon, including a few cozy little surprises to carry us through the season together.
Here’s to doing summer your way.
