Why You Should Start a Side Gig
We get it, hustle culture is here & more prevalent than ever before.
The COVID-19 pandemic has shifted much of how people view their current jobs, financial security, & means of making money.
Because of ample opportunities online & the growing population of people who work remote jobs, it seems like it’s now easier than ever before to find & start a side gig to make a little extra cash on the side.
But why should you?
I mean, isn’t the job you work enough? Sure, it can be. But, why not monopolize on the extra time you have in the day, a flexible schedule, or an interest of yours that you’ve pushed to the side as a way to increase your income, develop your passions, or even, eventually, make the career change you’ve been too scared to try.
Think about how you’re using your free-time now.
I’m sure it involves some sort of rest, which is important. We need time to recover from the daily life obligations we have related to work, self-care, relationships, & more. But, if you’re like me, you know deep down the time you spend aimlessly scrolling on social media, binging reality TV, or diving down rabbit holes on your computer may not be the best use of your time.
Now, I’m certainly not saying that you should make sure that every spare minute you have in your life is one dedicated to being productive. But, I am saying that some of our free time can be better used in developing a side gig.
five reasons why you should consider putting in some extra time to developing a side gig:
1. It’s a chance to turn your passion into profit
Whether you are interested in baking, photography, or writing, starting a side gig allows you to make money doing something you love.
2. It’s a great way to diversify your income
With a side gig, you’ll have multiple streams of income, which can help protect you financially in case of job loss or other unexpected events — or just give you a little extra wiggle room to afford that new purse you’ve been eyeing, or be able to treat yourself to a nice dinner outing.
3. It’s an opportunity to learn new skills
Starting a side hustle can be a great way to learn new skills, such as marketing, networking, & financial management.
4. It’s a Way to be Your Own Boss
With a side gig, you have the freedom to set your own schedule & work on your own terms. If your side gig begins to become more profitable or develop further, you can turn it into a very successful business. Maybe this is the launching pad you need in order to push yourself closer to your actual career goals!
5. It’s all of the fun!
Starting a side gig is a great way to meet new people, travel, & create something new & exciting. Being involved in a side gig that aligns with an area you have interest in may be the very thing you need to break out of your typical routine, grow your confidence, & learn new skill sets. It can also be an opportunity to connect with likeminded people who have the same interests & passions as you do.
Remember, it doesn’t have to be a crazy revolution in your life, some side gigs that are attainable for most everyone could be babysitting, dog-walking, DoorDashing, or selling art-pieces on Etsy. Some side gigs are about just making an extra $50-100 a month to help cover expenses, whereas some can be what gives you the space to explore your creative side & true passions when work doesn’t allow for it.
So, what are you waiting for?
Start a side hustle today and start turning your passion into profit!
Later babes.
