The Power of Sticking to What You Love

Okay, guys. I’m gonna go a little bit off the record today, or maybe it is on the record — either way, you need to know because so much has been happening & I just can’t NOT share. Today I’m being really real. Get ready.

So it’s no secret that 2020 has been an entire hot mess. For everyone.

I haven’t made it to complete entrepreneur or full time blogger status yet, so of course I work in the amazing world of Corporate America. Which, might I add, I love now, by the way. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It may not be appealing to some, but that’s because, in my humble opinion, they weren’t working in their genius zone. Doing something you love, on top of having room to grow will really surprise you. But, we’ll get to that later.

Alright. Let’s rewind a bit.

I remember deciding that I wanted to be a blogger one night in my dorm room back when I was attending Ole Miss. I can clearly remember the excitement and extensive research like it happened yesterday.

But when I told family & close friends, I got looks from some of them that screamed, “Are you actually serious right now?” & someone even had the audacity to go as far as suggesting that it would never go anywhere. The nerve.

In spite of the lack of support, I was going to do this & I was determined not to let anyone stop me. I always mention the blog before the blog, & even that didn’t stop me ( I’ll totally do a post on the deets soon. )

Needless to say, TPOL came along in 2017 & it’s still here. Ever evolving. Because I totally meant it when I said I was doing this.

Okay, back to the point. In October of last year, I got a job at this medical company & honestly, it was good. It had its flaws, but it was still good.

Then COVID19 happened.

Even though where I was working was a medical company of all things & deemed essential, there was still a decrease in revenue, so a lot of employees were let go. Including me.

I’m sure you already know, but a loss of income is not fun at all when you’re adulting.

Thankfully, it didn’t last long because another job came along in that same month. April of this year, to be specific. It wasn’t a whole lot of down time & I thought that I’d be able to get back on track. So, we’re good, right?

Wrong.

My car decided that it was just done & so it broke down within the next month. Perfect. Just the OPPOSITE of what the doctor ordered.

I ended up in a rental car for way longer than I’d liked to have been & I’m not going to even pretend that wasn’t expensive. It was.

But not all hope was lost. When I first got the new job, I’d shared that I am a blogger during one of the ice breaker/fun facts situations. Some of my coworkers & my boss had asked to see TPOL & I was more than happy to share my experience deets.

Apparently that stuck with them, because in June, in the midst of my chaos, my boss came to me & offered me a promotion. They had checked out TPOL in depth & offered me the position BECAUSE of my blog & experience with websites.

By mid July, I had gotten a new car, a promotion that I am absolutely obsessed with, & my own office space.

All of this happened in a matter of months. & I know for a fact that it was because I shared what I do & love outside of the office. Not to mention the hard work I put in initially when I started at the company.

If I would have given up on blogging the moment I realized that I didn’t have full support from friends & family, or when it didn’t work out the first time, I would NOT be where I am today.

& please believe that it doesn’t end here. The best is yet to be.

There is absolute power in sticking to what you love. Even when no one else supports you or shares your vision. Because one way or another it will come through for you in just the most shocking way. Let that be your motivation.

Okay, time to go get prepared for my week.

Let me know your thoughts on the importance of sticking to what YOU love.

Later, babes.
